Live Dealer Poker Games

Did you know you can experience some of the world’s most elite, professional poker games from anywhere? Poker games online live stream video feed of experienced croupiers from behind the casino tables around the world. Even sitting at home on my computer, I can play online poker tables streaming from the gaming floors in London or Las Vegas casinos.

I’ve become a huge fan of playing live poker games. You get a fully immersive gambling experience where you can interact with the dealers and other players while winning real money on all kinds of poker tables. Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of gambling sites, looking for the best live dealer games. When it comes to poker, casino players in Canada, like myself, have some quality options out there. Below you can check the sites that I consider the top online poker casinos.

Why Play Live Dealer Poker

I’ve worked in the casino industry for a long time, and I’ve experienced both sides of the table working as a croupier and playing live cards. What I love about live poker games is that it brings to you that same feeling of playing in a casino, but allows you to still enjoy the game from anywhere. After all, living in Canada, I can’t always hop on a plane to get to Las Vegas to play top poker tables.

I come from Calgary, and although we have quite a few places to gamble nearby, sometimes I just want a bit more options in terms of poker variations, buy-ins, and so on. Live poker games just make it easier to get a full variety of poker to play on mobile casinos or from my computer. You might catch me on the train playing a few rounds of poker from my iPhone. Otherwise, I’ll probably kick back at home playing live poker on my iPad. It’s just more convenient!

Many online casinos have their poker tables that go up against a computer. For me, that can get a bit stale after a while, and I like the interactive aspect of playing live poker tables. During the games, you can chat with croupiers and players from all over the world. It makes things more social and fun!

Less experienced players might feel intimidated sitting around a virtual table with other players watching. But to really get good, you gotta learn from other players. Live poker gives you the chance to watch other players and chat about different strategies. I can’t tell you how many tricks I’ve learned just by chatting with other poker players.

Basic Rules of Poker (Texas Hold’em)

If you’re new to the game, I’ll lay out the basics for you. Poker has quite a few variations so for the sake of this example, I’ll explain how to play Texas Hold’em live poker. For more details, check out my how to play live poker page.

  1. Pre Flop: Each player receives two cards with the option to:
    • Check: You don’t add any money
    • Bet: You add money to the pot
    • Fold: You give up and leave the game
  2. The Flop: The dealer puts three cards face up in the centre of the table.
  3. The Turn: Each player goes through another series of betting. Then the dealer adds a fourth card to the pile.
  4. The River: Players go through another series of betting. Then the dealer adds a fifth card to the shared pile.
  5. The End: Players try to make the best hand using their cards and the shared cards in the centre pile. Texas Hold’em has two ways to determine the winner. In a showdown, the player with the best hand wins. In other versions, the game ends when a player bets enough to make the others fold.

*A quick tip: Knowing the odds of poker hands, you can increase your chances of winning.

Are there bonuses for Live Poker?

When I play live poker online, I always look for bonuses. Casinos give away extra cash to bet risk-free on poker tables. Make sure to check my live poker bonus page to learn more about these opportunities.

Game variations

You can find many poker variations (one reason I just love this game). Basically, you’ll find three types of poker:

      • Draw Poker: Players receive their own hands and try to make the best hand by replacing cards.
      • Stud Poker: Players receive a combination of cards facing up and down during multiple betting rounds.
      • Community Poker: Players get an incomplete, secret hand and try to make the best hands by combining theirs with the shared pile in the centre of the table (like in Texas Hold’em).

Another common poker game you’ll come across will include Omaha Hold’em, another kind of community poker game. In this version, the dealer deals five cards to the centre facing up. Then each player tries to make the best hand using two of their hidden cards with three of the community cards. Some other popular live poker games include Three Card Poker, Casino Hold’em, Razz, Omaha Hi-Lo, and Five Card Draw.

Casino Poker Games

Since I started working in gambling, I’ve seen the online gambling industry explode. Online poker has become one of the most popular games. Online casinos have come up with lots of live poker variations like Caribbean Stud, Red Dog, Pai Gow, Let it Ride, and Casino Hold’Em. You’ll find plenty of betting limits for small budgets or high rollers, too.

Strategies

Want to increase your bankroll? Developing the right poker strategy could turn some serious profit. Starting out, I suggest learning the rules on free poker games against the computer. You might even want to keep a cheat sheet nearby with all of the hands. As you get the hang of the game, play poker with small bets (some casinos have minimums as low as $0.10). Along the way, you’ll learn different tactics that work for you to improve your skills and profits.

Live Poker Tournaments vs. Sit and Go

I love a good live poker tournament or Sit and Go competition. Here’s what you need to know:

      • Live Poker Tournaments: Players compete against each other for the best rank. These can go on for hours so if you decide to join, make sure to settle in, get all your snacks and supplies, and get ready for a long poker session.
      • Sit and Go: This type of competition usually has two, six, or nine players at the table. The game begins once the table fills up. Everyone starts with the same amount of chips. Compared to other games, the betting usually starts relatively lower with Sit and Go tournaments.
